Self-assessment helper for sole traders and landlords

Sort your bank statements into self-assessment categories

Upload a tax year of bank statements and get every transaction sorted into the categories used on the self-assessment tax return, with totals for your income and expenses. Check and change anything, then download it to Excel or hand it to your accountant.

Free preview. £14.99 for up to 36 statements for one tax year. No subscription, no account needed.

Only transactions dated within the tax year are included. Statements that overlap the start or end of it are fine.

  • In-memory processing

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose your tax year

Say whether you're a sole trader or a landlord, and which tax year. Only transactions dated inside it are included.

  2. 2

    Upload your statements

Add the PDFs or photos for the year, from every account you use. The preview shows the first few transactions with their suggested categories.

  3. 3

    Review and download

Unlock to see everything. Change any category that's wrong (we mark the ones we weren't sure about), then download the Excel workbook with a summary and the full list.

Tax return categories

Sole traders get the self-employment expense categories. Landlords get the UK property categories. Personal spending and transfers are set aside so they don't inflate your costs.

Honest about uncertainty

Ambiguous payments such as Amazon, supermarkets and cash withdrawals are marked for you to check, rather than quietly guessed.

Yours to correct

Change a category on one payment and apply it to every payment with the same name. Your totals update as you go.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tax advice?
No. The categories are suggestions to save you time. We don't calculate your tax, and you are responsible for the figures on your return. If you're unsure whether something is allowable, check HMRC's guidance or ask an accountant.
Does it file my tax return or connect to HMRC?
No. It organises your statements into categories and gives you totals and a spreadsheet. You then use those figures on your return, or pass them to your accountant.
What categories does it use?
For sole traders, the expense categories shown in the self-employment pages of the tax return (such as cost of goods, travel, premises costs, office costs, professional fees and bank charges). For landlords, the UK property categories (such as repairs, professional fees, rent, rates and insurance). Both include categories shown separately and left out of your totals, such as personal spending, transfers and tax payments.
Does it handle capital allowances, simplified expenses or the trading allowance?
No. Equipment and vehicle purchases are shown separately so you can claim them the right way, and for residential landlords, mortgage interest is also shown separately because it's treated differently. Everything else, including allowances and reliefs, is for you or your accountant to decide.
I use one account for both business and personal spending. Will that work?
Yes, but expect more to check. Anything that looks private is set to personal and left out of your expenses. Review those rows, because business payments can be marked personal and the other way round.
How many statements can I add?
One purchase covers up to 36 statement files for one tax year, such as 12 months for three accounts. Each file can be up to 10 pages and 4 MB. Add every statement before you unlock, because a new set of statements needs a new purchase.
Are my statements stored?
No. They are held in memory while being read and are not kept by us. To read them, each file is sent securely to Google's Gemini API under its paid-service terms, which don't allow Google to train its models on your documents. See our privacy policy for the details.
